Cohesia 8.1 Specification Management Tools

Between manufacturers and their global supply base, the Cohesia 8.1 web-based software securely shares a broad range of engineering design data. Precise communication of product requirements to manufacturing sources ensures flexible sourcing while maintaining essential market differentiation. Hosted onsite or by us, supply chain partners only need an Internet browser.

This solution assures Aerospace Manufacturing that Quality Engineers, Procurement, Design Engineers, and Special Process Experts can:

  • Create part-specific Master Specifications that fully define manufacturing requirements that come from the CAD models/drawings, specifications, special instructions, best practices, and other sources
  • Communicate changes to requirements as new drawing revisions are released.
  • Submit and approve AS9102 First Article Inspection Reports
  • Create AS9103 Key Characteristic Variation Management Reports
  • Create Special Process Control Plans or other reports for ongoing production
  • Collaborate on other customer/manufacturing source quality assurance activities
  • View supplier quality and manufacturing capability metrics as well as track key characteristics throughout the product lifecycle

Characteristic Management with Cohesia 8.1

Powerway’s Specification Management tools assist your organization to monitor characteristic data throughout the product lifecycle. During the design process we provide tools for concurrent engineering. The part-specific Master Specification can be used by manufacturing sources for various critical processes such as cost estimation, production planning, and variation management. AS9102 and AS9103 forms can be completed online, 24x7 by all of your manufacturing partners.

Features included in Cohesia 8.1:

Characteristic identification from raster drawings

When no CAD model or drawing file is available, features and characteristic data must still be identified. Using the new Cohesia 8.1 Balloon Tool, tolerances, notes and even hand-written markups can be captured in a table of requirements. This data is available in web-enabled forms for entering inspection data.

Connectivity with BCT Inspector for CAD part file upload

BCT Technology provides many complementary tools to work with CAD models and drawings. Auto-ballooning of these CAD files is the quickest method to identify all features presented on the drawing. This list of requirements can be uploaded into the Cohesia 8.1 online AS9102 forms. The full range of BCT Technology products can be found by clicking on the logo above.

Submission, approval and archival of First Article "Virtual Manila Folder"

Using patented technology, requirements for a complex, engineered product can be fully defined and communicated to the manufacturing source. Compliance to this set of requirements, as defined by Aerospace Standard AS9102, can be verified through a secure, 24x7 internet-based application that provides immediate pass/fail visibility.

Online First Article (FAI) reports can include electronic copies of required attachments such as material certifications which are archived with the report.

Interoperability with simple .csv imports and exports

The list of part-specific requirements contained in a Master Spec may be exported as a CSV file. This data is often used by manufacturing sources during production planning activities. Cohesia 8.1 includes a template to assist users in the formatting of the list of requirements, as required by AS9102 forms. This CSV input can come from a spreadsheet (e.g. Microsoft Excel®), a database (e.g. Microsoft Access®) and many other software applications that can provide this format option.

Material and manufacturing specifications as IntelliDocs

Using the Spec Studio™ authoring environment, you no longer must rely on paper documents to communicate just how you want products manufactured. Once in the proprietary IntelliDoc® electronic format, specification "flat" data is transformed into intelligent, usable requirements.

Rule-based queries extract part-specific requirements from information formerly presented in tables, graphics or paragraphs. The result? Accurate and time-saving use of these critical documents - for many drawings and suppliers. This eliminates missed or misinterpreted requirements.

Flowdown of Requirements to sub-tier suppliers

Cohesia 8.1 addresses a critical industry challenge: maintaining visibility to critical product requirements throughout your multi-tier supplier chain.

Product and Manufacturing Capability Analysis

Using collected data, Cohesia 8.1 customers can evaluate key features and supplier capabilities for critical special processes. The Characteristic Data Warehouse can be mined with any standard report writing tool such as Crystal Reports®, Cognos™, or Hyperion®. An embedded report module is available with characteristic management reports.
